Palm Beach and surrounds Entertainment

ENTERTAINMENT

When you want to don your glittering kaftans and wedges, or could do with a break from sandy toes, there are a small handful of entertainment options on this northernmost tip of the Peninsula.

United Cinemas Avalon

Running since 1955, Avalon cinemas provide a fabulously retro and old-fashioned movie experience. Red letters on a white billboard above the entrance display the day’s films, showing in either of the two theatres. The cinema is a contrast to the mega complexes found in high-traffic urban locations. There are usually about six films showing throughout the week and they tend to be arthouse or indie genre films rather than the mainstream blockbusters.

Club Palm Beach

The local RSL at Palm Beach has a bistro as well as Tab and Keno. The beer garden and bird aviary is a great place in summer to kick back with friends over a drink or two.

Carols by the Sea

Each Christmas season, Avalon becomes a magical wonderland, Aussie style, during the McGrath Avalon Carols by the Sea. (link: https://avalonbeachslsc.com.au/community-events/) Families descend on the sloping grass hill alongside Avalon’s sands with their picnic rugs to listen to Christmas carols and watch the culminating fireworks display set against the backdrop of the ocean. A market style food fair provides convenient dining options, or bring your own picnic food or grab a pizza from the nearby Avalon village. A visit from Santa is always a hit with those both young and old! This annual and free community event has been running since 2014 and attracts about 3,000 people. In 2018, the carols will take place on Saturday 8 December.
